Run n8n workflows on Deskwoot events and act in Deskwoot from n8n

There are two ways to connect n8n. On the Enterprise plan, the Deskwoot node for n8n starts a workflow when something happens in Deskwoot, and your workflows reply, add notes, assign, add labels and update contacts in Deskwoot. From the Startup plan, a Deskwoot webhook sends events to n8n's own Webhook node.

Overview

Support work rarely ends in the inbox. A new customer message may need an order lookup in your shop, a row in a spreadsheet or a task in another tool. n8n builds such workflows, on n8n Cloud or on your own server. Deskwoot connects to it in two ways: your workflows react to what happens in Deskwoot and, on the Enterprise plan, act in Deskwoot too.

The Deskwoot node for n8n is a community node: install it in n8n under Settings > Community Nodes with the name n8n-nodes-deskwoot. Its Deskwoot Trigger starts a workflow on 6 events: a new conversation, a new customer message, an assignment, a resolved conversation, a new contact and a satisfaction rating. Each event arrives with plain fields, such as the conversation's link, status, inbox, assignee and labels and the contact's name and email address.

The Deskwoot node then acts in Deskwoot. It starts a conversation where the channel allows it, replies to the customer, adds a private note, assigns a conversation to a teammate or a team, adds a label, and finds, creates or updates a contact. It also works as a tool for n8n's AI agents. Replies and notes from n8n show the name of the person who created the API token.

The node signs in with a Deskwoot REST API token, so it needs the Enterprise plan, and a trial does not include API access. It works with n8n on your own server, since n8n Cloud offers only community nodes that n8n has checked. Deskwoot signs every event it sends to the Deskwoot Trigger, and the trigger checks that signature, so nobody else can start your workflow through its address.

Not on Enterprise? From the Startup plan, and in the 7 day trial, n8n's own Webhook node gets Deskwoot events: paste its Production URL into a webhook under Settings > Webhooks. This way works on n8n Cloud too, but it only sends events out. To let n8n answer customers as a bot, add a Custom Webhook bot under Settings > Bots, also from the Startup plan.

What you get with the n8n integration

  • Workflows start on Deskwoot events

The Deskwoot Trigger starts a workflow on new conversations, customer messages, assignments, resolved conversations, new contacts and satisfaction ratings.

  • Act in Deskwoot from n8n

Reply, add private notes, assign, add labels, start conversations and keep contacts up to date from any workflow, or let an n8n AI agent use the node as a tool.

  • Every event is checked

Deskwoot signs each event and the trigger checks the signature. Publishing a workflow turns its trigger on in Deskwoot, and unpublishing turns it off.

  • Webhooks from the Startup plan

Without Enterprise, n8n's Webhook node gets Deskwoot events through a webhook, the 7 day trial included.

Getting started

Connect n8n in 4 steps.

  1. In n8n, go to Settings > Community Nodes, click Install and enter n8n-nodes-deskwoot.
  2. In Deskwoot, an administrator opens Settings > API Tokens and creates a token with the scopes Read and Write. Deskwoot shows it only once.
  3. In n8n, create a Deskwoot API credential with that token and the ID shown under Your Account ID on the same Deskwoot page. n8n tests it right away.
  4. Add the Deskwoot Trigger with an event such as Customer Message Received, add the Deskwoot node as a next step and publish the workflow.

n8n integration FAQ

The short answers are here. For anything else, ask Fynn below.

Which plan do I need?

The Deskwoot node needs the Enterprise plan, because it signs in with a REST API token, and a trial does not include API access. n8n's own Webhook node works from the Startup plan with a Deskwoot webhook, and the 7 day trial includes it.

Does the Deskwoot node work on n8n Cloud?

Not yet. n8n Cloud offers only community nodes that n8n has checked, so the Deskwoot node works with n8n on your own server. n8n's Webhook node works on n8n Cloud too.

What does the Deskwoot Trigger need?

An API token that an administrator created, since only such a token can turn on Deskwoot triggers, and an n8n that Deskwoot can reach from the internet over HTTPS. When you publish the workflow, the trigger subscribes to its event in Deskwoot. When you unpublish it, the trigger removes that subscription.

Can n8n reply to customers?

Yes. With the Deskwoot node, Reply sends a message on the conversation's channel, and Add Private Note writes a note that only your team sees. Without Enterprise, a Custom Webhook bot under Settings > Bots lets n8n answer as a bot, from the Startup plan.

What happens when I revoke the API token?

Every trigger that token turned on stops at once, and the node's actions fail. Create a new token, update the Deskwoot API credential in n8n, then unpublish and publish the workflow again.

What does it cost?

The node is free and open source under the MIT license. In Deskwoot, it comes with the Enterprise plan, and webhooks come with the Startup plan and higher. What n8n costs is up to n8n.
