Notification sounds and push notifications

Pick a sound, choose when it plays, let it repeat until you are back, and get push notifications on your phone in the language of your Deskwoot app.

Updated October 5, 2026Also available in: Deutsch, Português

Deskwoot plays a sound in your browser when something new comes in, and sends push notifications to the Deskwoot app on your phone. You pick the sound and the events in Settings > Notifications under Sounds. Turn on Repeat until I'm back if you often work in other tabs or windows. Pushes on your phone are written in the language of the app on that phone.

Pick a sound

  1. Click Settings in the rail and open Notifications.
  2. Under Sounds, open the Sound menu and pick one of the 5 sounds. The sound plays once when you pick it.
  3. Click Play to hear it again.
  4. Switch New conversation and New message on or off. Both are on at the start.

The sounds, each with the short description the menu shows:

  • Cash register: a click, the drawer, a bright ching
  • Bell: one small bell that rings out (the default)
  • Dog bark: two short barks
  • Knock: two soft knocks on wood
  • Marimba: three notes going up

Every change is saved to your profile right away, so every browser you sign in with uses it, and other open Deskwoot tabs follow at once. Browsers only play sound after you have clicked somewhere on the page once.

When a sound plays

  • New conversation plays for every new conversation you can see in your list. It also plays when a conversation becomes yours without your doing (a teammate, a rule or the queue assigns it to you) and when your AI bot hands a chat to your team. A chat the bot is still answering does not ring.
  • New message plays a softer, shorter version of your sound when a customer writes in a conversation assigned to you. Your own replies, private notes and bot messages never ring.
  • Sounds that arrive within 1.5 seconds of each other ring once, even with several Deskwoot tabs open in the same browser.

Repeat until I'm back

This switch is off by default. When it is on and a sound rings while you are away from Deskwoot (the tab is in the background or the window is not in front), the sound plays again every 15 seconds until you come back. You are back as soon as a Deskwoot tab is in front and focused, or you click or press a key in it.

The repeats stop after 10 minutes at the latest, and no new round starts until you have been back once. They also stop when every conversation they rang for is handled somewhere else, for example when you replied from your phone, or a colleague took the conversation or it was resolved. With several Deskwoot tabs open, only one tab repeats.

Push notifications on your phone

  • Pushes go to the Deskwoot app on your phone, see The Deskwoot iPhone app. The browser dashboard itself does not send pushes.
  • Each push is written in the language of the Deskwoot app on that phone. On first start the app uses your phone's language when it is English, German, Portuguese or Hindi, otherwise English. You can change it in the app under More > Settings > Language, and the next pushes use the new language.
  • Two phones of the same person can get pushes in different languages.
  • Notification emails are written in your dashboard language, the one you pick under Language in the user menu of the rail.
  • The notification list in the app shows transfers the same way as Notifications in the dashboard, for example "Anna transferred #1234 to you", "Next up once you have room" or "Anna had no free slot, #1234 went to the queue".
  • Which events send a push you set for each event in Settings > Notifications, in the Push column next to In-app and Email. Click Save Preferences afterwards. Push always stays on for Conversation Assigned and Mentioned in Conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't I hear anything?

Click anywhere on the dashboard page once, because browsers block sound until then. Then check that New conversation or New message is switched on and that your computer is not muted.

Why did a new conversation not ring?

New conversation only rings for conversations you can see in your list. A chat your AI bot is still answering rings once the bot hands it to your team. If your role only shows your own conversations, it rings when one is assigned to you.

Does "Repeat until I'm back" ring forever?

No. It stops as soon as you come back to a Deskwoot tab, and after 10 minutes at the latest.

I have Deskwoot open in three tabs. Do I hear everything three times?

No. Sounds that arrive together ring once across all tabs, and only one tab repeats.

Can every teammate pick their own sound?

Yes. The sound settings belong to your own profile and do not change anything for your colleagues.

Which sound plays for a new customer message?

The sound you picked, in a shorter and softer version, and only in conversations assigned to you. You can switch it off with New message.

Why do my push notifications come in the wrong language?

They follow the language of the Deskwoot app on that phone, not the language of the dashboard. Change it in the app under More > Settings > Language, and the next pushes use the new language.
